The stain is on my ceiling. Is the leak right above it?
Often not. Water follows the path of least resistance along joists and pipes and drops at the first low spot or seam. That is why we locate the source with equipment rather than cutting where the stain is.
How do you know it is a plumbing leak and not the roof?
We pressure test the water lines first. If the lines hold pressure, the water is coming from somewhere else, such as a drain, a shower pan, a window, or the roof, and we will tell you that honestly instead of opening a wall for nothing.
Will you damage my walls looking for the leak?
No. Detection is done from the surface. The only opening is the one needed to make the repair, and it is at the marked location.
Should I be worried about mold?
Any leak that has been running inside a wall for more than a few days can start mold, so the sooner it is found and dried out, the better. Finding the exact source quickly limits how much material has to be replaced.
